Flag of RomaniaRomania is a Southeastern European country occupying the northeastern part of the Balkan Peninsula. Historic villages and castles, fertile plains, and majestic mountains will charm you and invite to visit. Romania is nearly the size of Oregon with the Carpathian Mountains covering about one-third of the country. If you enjoy wildlife you may want to visit the broad, swampy Danube delta, the largest in Europe, with its wild animals, such as bears, wolves, wild boars, and lynx. It is also a paradise for birdwatchers.

Romania is well known for Vlad Dracula, one of the most dreaded enemies of the Ottoman Empire. He established the state of Transylvania, a region with high mountains, which occupies most of central and northern Romania. If you are a fan of Dracula, you may have a chance to travel to the ruins of Dracula's castle in Transylvania, dating from the 14th century; or other historic sites.

Half of the population in Romania lives in the rural areas, where livestock graze in the rolling pastures, and farmers grow  potatoes, fruits, and many other crops. The capital of Romania is Bucharest, also the country's largest city, with a population of about 2 million inhabitants. Travel to Romania and you will discover more about its history, culture, and people!
