The Republic of Turkey is a Eurasian country that stretches across Western Asia and Southeastern Europe. Home to over 70 million inhabitants, Turkey borders 8 countries and the Mediterranean Sea to the South. Under the leadership of modern Turkey’s founding hero, Kemal Ataturk, the country embraced democratic ideals and has become increasingly integrated with the West.
Due to its unique transcontinental location, Turkey’s culture comprises Eastern and Western traditions. Turkey, particularly Istanbul, its largest city, has much to offer in the way of colorful culture, rich history, and striking landmarks.
In Istanbul you may enjoy shopping at the Grand Bazaar and bargaining for Turkish scarves and spices, or a visit to one of the city's many mosques. Hospitality is at the core of Turkish culture. It is common for Turks to invite strangers to their homes for a cup of strong coffee or tea. Enjoy this incredible country with a family that will welcome you with open arms!
