Host Family of the Month: The Korbuly Family

It started with one exchange student from Thailand, and quickly grew into a family tradition of inviting the world into their home.

Their journey with YFU began in 2019, when their daughter left for a 10-month exchange. Like many families, they felt the quiet space her absence left behind. But instead of simply missing her, they chose to open their home, and in doing so, discovered a passion that would shape their lives in the years to come.

Since then, they have hosted students from around the world: Italy, Germany and most recently, Paraguay and Japan, hosting two students at the same time and embracing the opportunity to double the cultures, stories, and memories.

But the Korbuly family doesn’t just host. They create once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Their students don’t just live with them, they become part of their family and friends’ circles. They jump into programs together, share everyday life, and then hit the road: mobile-home trips across Hungary and all over Europe, bicycle tours, cultural adventures, new cities, new flavors, new traditions.

The strongest proof of their impact is the lasting relationships they build. Their connections have grown far beyond the exchange year and one especially meaningful moment shows this clearly. They travelled to Italy to celebrate a former student’s 18th birthday, while another former student visiting them at the same time joined the trip. Thailand and Hungary meeting again in Italy, celebrating together.

Their involvement with YFU also extends into volunteering, where they continue to support the mission that first connected them to exchange.

And their journey is far from over

With openness, curiosity, and kindness, they continue to look forward to welcoming new students and new cultures into their lives.

The Korbuly family reminds us that hosting is more than opening your home, it is opening your world.
